What is Worm?

Worm is a prediction market platform built on Solana. It lets users trade on the outcome of real-world events, ranging from sports and politics to crypto, finance, technology, and internet culture. Users can either trade existing markets or create new ones without needing approval from the Worm team.

How Worm Works

Worm is a permissionless prediction market app on Solana. Users can trade “Yes” or “No” on event outcomes, create their own markets, and earn a share of trading fees from markets they launch.

The prediction app is built around order books; therefore, the prices are set by buyers and sellers rather than by fixed odds from the team. Prices change when traders place new bids, asks, or market orders. Since the market price reflects what traders collectively think the probability of an outcome is at a given time, if a “Yes” outcome trades around $0.70, the market is effectively pricing that event at roughly a 70% chance of happening.

Leveraged Markets on Worm

One of Worm’s notable features is leveraged prediction trading. In selected markets, users can take positions with up to 3x leverage. This is very useful in situations where a market already prices an outcome as likely, and so there is a limited upside for a normal trade. With leverage, the trader can increase their exposure to that outcome. For example, instead of only taking a 1x position, a trader can use 2x or 3x exposure if they have stronger conviction. However, if the market moves against the position, the user can be liquidated before the event resolves. Leveraged markets are currently curated by Worm rather than created freely by users.

Creating a Market on Worm

Worm allows anyone to create a prediction market for free. There is no listing fee or manual approval process for getting started. The creation process is AI-assisted. A user describes the event they want to create a market for, and Worm helps shape it into a clearer market with objective rules. The AI known as “Wormie” can suggest the market question, resolution criteria, deadline, and potential sources that can verify the result.

Creating a new prediction market on Worm

A good market needs to be specific and resolvable. For example, a market should not ask a vague question like “Will this project do well?” It should ask something measurable, such as whether a token reaches a certain price by a certain date or whether a team wins a match. After the draft is generated, users can review and edit it before publishing. Once live, the market becomes available for others to trade.

Market creators also earn from activity on their markets. Worm shares 50% of trading fees with the creator. It gives users an incentive to create markets that other people actually want to trade.

Trading Existing Markets

A user can browse live markets on Worm and trade based on their view of an event. These markets may cover sports results, election outcomes, crypto prices, public announcements, financial milestones, social media metrics, or other events with clear resolution criteria.

Market Categories on Worm

Worm organizes markets into categories so users can find events that match their interests. These categories make it easier to browse active markets and discover new ones. They include:

Sports

Markets around match results, tournament outcomes, player performance, and other sports-related events.  Because of the current World Cup, football games are the most traded in this category.

Worm allows you to make predictions on sports, including this year's world cup.

Market Creation via X

To create a market on X, tag @wormpredict in a post that contains your prediction. The tweet should include the key details the bot needs to understand the context and set up the market correctly. For example, a user may tag @wormpredict in a prediction about the market price of the SOL token, clearly mentioning both the token and the target price. This gives the bot enough information to identify the asset and create the appropriate prediction market.

For other types of predictions, users should provide the same level of clarity. The post should include all necessary details, such as the subject of the prediction, the expected outcome, and any relevant conditions or timeframe. The clearer the tweet, the easier it is for the Worm Protocol to generate an accurate market. The bot replies with a link to the created market on Worm.wtf that can be traded.

Market Resolution and Payouts

When a market reaches its deadline, Worm checks the outcome based on the resolution rules. For many markets, AI is used to gather information and propose a result. Some markets may also go through a team review before final settlement if it becomes complicated. Once the result is confirmed, settlement happens on-chain. Winning shares are paid out, while losing shares expire with no value. There is no need to manually claim funds as payouts are included in the automatic settlement process.

Worm Telegram Bot

Apart from the Wormie AI feature, Worm also offers a Telegram bot that lets users participate in predictions directly from Telegram. The bot currently functions as a mini app for World Cup games, allowing users to make predictions in a simple format. Over time, it may expand to support more event categories and prediction types.

What are the Risks involved when trading on Worm?

Worm is an on-chain prediction market platform, and you must understand the risks involved before trading. A market may have low liquidity (especially when newly created), and leveraged positions can be liquidated. Larger trades may experience slippage, and some outcomes may take longer to resolve. Therefore, traders must ensure they understand the rules before entering any position.

Conclusion

Worm brings prediction markets to Solana with a mix of permissionless market creation, order-book trading, AI-assisted setup, and leveraged markets for events. Users can trade on existing outcomes, create their own markets, and earn from the activity those markets generate. For Solana users interested in prediction trading, Worm offers a more open and on-chain way to speculate on what happens next.
